If you *did* have this problem with RC1, I'm not sure what to say, other than to install Liveware right after the Windows install before anything else for SBL via windows update after XP was installed. The card sounds ok, but since I don't have any creative software (on XP), I cannot get 4 speaker sound.

I will say, I do like the pretty transparent windows and a few other features new to Vista but a shit sandwich with whip cream is still a shit sandwich. We've really been fortunate to not have any significant problems with Vista. The SP1 RC1 update that is available for download also seems to have sped things up

My computer has an ESS Solo onboard sound card, which XP detected and installed without any trouble. However, when I went onto Windows Update after getting I restarted and logged on - as Administrator, just to be safe - and sure enough Windows detected it (well I presume it did) just before it hung the system.

Windows Update of dual boot systems ... not a problem?
When trying to open Word or Excel: "There is not enough memory or disk space to run Word (Excel)." Of course, I have restarted (twice) to no avail and have shut down any memory intensive application. SP1 RC1, 1st release. My problems started when i downloaded the small update for the release of SP1 RC1 refresh. It started then, I did a system restore and went back to a day before. Now it does not detect the Sp1 installation from MS but the latest updates from my WSUS server. It hangs for no reason.

In this case it seems to be caused by MS stupidly pulling update support for Beta2 before they ship the RC1 discs. Now I know that I am happy. Your thread re updates for Vista is the third Q that has crept into WINDOWS updates in the last couple of months. I cannot remember reading any for updates in Vista.
